SchneidersKeller Arrives on Denmark Street

The London sibling of Berlin’s iconic synth shop celebrates Drone Day powered by Neumann speakers.

Back

London, June 10th, 2025 – For over a century, Denmark Street has been known as London’s street of sound – home to everything from sheet music publishers and punk venues to legendary studios and luthiers. Now, in a basement below Rough Trade, it welcomes something entirely new: SchneidersKeller, London’s only dedicated modular synth shop and the first international outpost of Berlin’s legendary SchneidersLaden.

Founded over 25 years ago by Andreas Schneider, the mind behind Superbooth, SchneidersLaden is widely considered the most renowned synth shop in the world. Its London incarnation carries that very same spirit, led by Edd Butterworth, formerly of London Modular, and Jean Marcel Fricke, son of the late synth innovator Manfred Fricke. Step past rows of vinyl and descend into the basement to a synth lover’s sanctuary: a patching haven stocked with modules from established names to boutique independent makers. Whether you’re lost in one of the many headphone stations or immersing yourself in the room’s meticulously tuned Neumann monitoring system, the space invites hours of sonic exploration.

A modular space

Much like its Berlin flagship, SchneidersKeller is more than just a retail space – it’s a hub for performance, experimentation, and community. Since opening a few months ago, it has partnered with Factory Setting for the post-Superbooth London party and hosted an intimate set by French composer and multi-instrumentalist Yann Tiersen ahead of his sold-out Barbican show, offering fans a unique opportunity to connect with artists in a relaxed and personal setting.

Neumann monitoring lies at the core of both SchneidersLaden and Keller. At SchneidersKeller, a permanent setup of KH 150 speakers and a KH 750 DSP subwoofer, calibrated using the MA 1 Automatic Monitor Alignment system, ensures the space is always performance-ready. The result is a room that delivers tight, controlled low-end, crisp mids, and a wide, immersive stereo image that envelops listeners with exceptional clarity and power.

At SchneidersKeller, Londoners and visitors can now explore firsthand what Neumann can do to elevate the listening experience. The event space at the Berlin headquarter is backed by an even more powerful Neumann's system, including the KH 870 Subwoofer and KH 420 Midfields.

Musical Drones

Recently, SchneidersKeller marked International Drone Day, a global celebration of sustained tones, ambient textures, and the communities who craft them. Across 12 hours, six artists delivered rotating hour-long sets, weaving a continuous, meditative soundscape that invited visitors to come and go freely throughout the day. The day opened with shop-generated drones easing guests into a slow bloom of sound. Microcorps set the tone with dense, experimental textures that gave way to the delicate ambience of Lesjamusic. Next up was Speakers Corner Quartet, weaving together live violin textures with exploratory synth improvisation.

As incense gently filled the basement, AM sin performed a set of stark contrasts, with gritty, overdriven sound design dissolving into moments of tranquility. Koova continued the journey with rich, evolving tones shaped through Chase Bliss pedals, before Yaw Evans brought the day to a close with a deep, meditative drone session, ending in an impromptu masterclass on his modular setup and the Hologram Microcosm.

With even more performances, workshops, and collaborations on the horizon, SchneidersKeller is fast becoming a cornerstone of London’s experimental sound scene – an outpost that honours its Berlin origins while nurturing fresh creative ground and putting quality sound first.
